Hi, today Grandpa came over and he got to see a fight he remembers hearing on the radio when he was only 10 years old. Joe Lewis and Tony Galento. The reason why this was fun was because my we just finished interviewing Grandpa about this a couple of weeks ago. Grandpa was only 16 years old and going into war in 1944 and he was at Tony’s bar in New Jersey and Tony had grudge fights happening at his gym next door to his place. Grandpa got in a fight with a kid in his bar and Tony walked him over to the ring next door. Tony was the referee and when Grandpa made it three rounds Tony told my Grandpa if it would have went 4 rounds my Grandpa would have beat this kid. Guess who the kid was? The champion of boxing for the WHOLE STATE OF NEW JERSEY! My Grandpa lost in three but Tony told him that nobody went even one round with him! This is my favorite story of my Grandpa as a kid. Right after this he went on a ship to war.
I found a picture of my Grandpa with his muscles from back when he was 37 years old. He is still strong as ever.
My Grandpa likes to watch boxing of the old fighters. Grandpa is the best story teller in our whole family we call it the olden days. Joe Louis is his favorite. Who is your favorite boxer?
Remember Tuesday is Valentines day so knock it out of the ring for all the people you love and have a great day!
Peace,
Adam
